I didn’t expect to start this blog and then almost immediately fail with my weekly posts, but we live in truly challenging times.

After my own extended sickness, I started preparing for my trip to Poland (where I am from). I haven’t been there since December 2019, so this was a really big deal, especially that this time I planned to stay there for 5 weeks to spend some quality time with my family and friends and to take care of some long overdue paperwork. Long trip requires long preparations: I have spent last 6 months booking airfare, getting miscellaneous paperwork taken care of and printed, wrapping up miscellaneous projects, buying gifts, making lists, checking them twice, finally – packing my luggage.

On Tuesday at around noon I have packed a few last things, including my jacket, beanie and gloves. I was supposed to fly on the next day.

At 3:30 PM I had to cancel my flight due COVID-19 reasons.

Of course when I was booking it 6 months ago I was aware of the possibility, that I might have to change my plans last minute, but it was still extremely difficult and emotional decision.

Last Tuesday evening all I could do is sit silently. It was very hard for me to switch from “go! go! go!” mode into “I am all packed and there is nowhere to go”.

Today I am feeling better and hopefully soon I will start making new plans for upcoming months. I am really looking forward to traveling, seeing my family, and enjoying some local dishes I have missed very much.

In the meantime, tonight, I am enjoying a staple from my wine closet (some people have wine cellars, some have wine racks – I have wine closet): Mbali | Chenin Blanc (79%) / Viognier (21%) 2021 | W.O. Western Cape | Wine Of South Africa (from Trader Joe’s).

Color:

Beautiful bright gold.

Aroma:

Very subtle aroma. I have to really stick my nose in there to enjoy these notes of elderberry flower, tangerines, and, on a second whiff – a bit of marshmallow and brown sugar.

Structure:

Bright, citrusy, with a very, very faint bitterness that only adds to the experience. Very refreshing and drinkable. A bit short finish.

Overall quality:

This wine has become a permanent resident in my wine closet. It is definitely a fantastic drink to enjoy in the summer but also extremely tasty in the fall. Drinking it in the kitchen and watching leaves fall down from my maple tree brings joy to my heart.

Total Rating: B
